Elkhorn slough

The part of the slough we visited is a broad expanse of water surrounded by pasture. Probably because Elkhorn Slough is a National Estuarine Research Preserve, our photo-safari pontoon boat was the only powered vessel on the water.  The tide was low, which helped in viewing the birds that frequent the water's edge, and theafternoon light was good for photography. The 44 images here are ordered as follows.

sea lions,      sea otters,      harbor seals,       pelicans,      egrets and herons,     cormorants,       grebes,      loons,   and   everything else.
